Day 9 // DFI

 Woah! What a morning!

First of all, I would like to thank the bubble coaches for the support over the past 9 weeks, the lovely ladies in my bubble group and the team from Manaiakalani!

I have learnt so much being on this course! I am looking forward to the new learning I will be doing as well as using my new knowledge to support others at my school.

I enjoyed completing the exam today and it is a great way to reflect and see if you retained any of the learning over the past 9 weeks of this course.

Fingers crossed I passed! 🤞

Have a lovely weekend! 🌞🌅🌻

Back to Teach my class now 😀😀

Day 8: DFI - Computational Thinking

Day 8: DFI - Computational Thinking

I have had a rollercoaster week! Only being in class for 2 days and getting some upsetting news in my personal life had me feeling very overwhelmed.

Empowered:

This really hit me hard for myself. This was my life growing up as a child. As an adult it was and has been hard breaking the cycle and managing everything. I could go on but however, it is what drives me to be a better person, teacher and a mother!

When I was studying, we had a rangahau project for 2 years. I focused on Poverty in our low decile schools in Tairawhiti and how our schools are supporting their students and whanau. One thing for me is that I am passionate about children who are from those backgrounds. I was one of those children.

With this session I found that, Manaiakalani kaupapa of empowerment is important. I would love to be a pilot class for manaiakalani next year within my school.

The greatest joy comes from Empowering students to… be life long learners.

Chalk n Talk - Digital Fluency, Digital Technologies and Curriculum.

Manaiakalani - empowering our teachers and learners together. Progression outcomes are a little different to the NZC learning progression outcomes.

What each part of the digital curriculum is broken down into.

I enjoyed reading and looking through this document and the language they have used. It is a great read and it is explained in student speak. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SCSXbLK0LNMJIeJZRu0FKowHI-2FDpw59RcVK0jCYSE/edit

I will look at this site for use in my class:

Explore: Coding

I have had fun exploring and looking at the different coding websites we can use in our classes. I found that the minecraft coding from Code.org was fun and seems easy to use. I might try this out with my class as I am lucky to have 1 to 1 device in my class.

Flappy bird was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it. This is a fun game and I think my students would love to explore Code.org.

My favourite so far is using scratch online on my laptop. Here is a screenshot of what I was playing around with.

I created a video of myself explaining how I made the above picture.

Creating with Code:

It was great to get a deeper understanding of how to work pixel art and coding on google sheets! When I was in lockdown I used one task that was created by Manaiakalani and my students loved it! I then created a second pixel art challenge for my students.

I can’t wait to show my students how to code by using pixel art! I think I will start with something simple like their name then moving on to objects.

Below is a screenshot of what I did with my time with Phil.

Then I created a coding picture task.

CS unplugged at home tasks are great for unplugged tasks.

To carry the learning from using google sheets to creating their image and creating a moving GIF on https://www.piskelapp.com/

My knowledge from the start of DFI to where I am now has developed a lot! I now feel like I am more confident with google and how to use these tools online with my class.

I am looking forward to sitting the Exam and would happily do the DFI again!!

Day 7: DFI // Devices

 Day 7: DFI // Devices

What a full on week it has been with the change in the Covid levels and heading back to school. It was great to see my students again and showed them our class site and my professional blog.

Connecting with Manaiakalani - Ubiquitous

As stated in the above picture. Having the availability for your students to be able to connect with their learning outside of the school time frame. They are able to show whanau what they are learning through their class site.

Thinking about how I set my students ready for their learning when I was attending my DFi course? At our school, the relievers have their own programmes that they run.

Deep Dive - Cybersmart

Empowering our students to be confident online.

Making sure to model Positive language and behaviours with your students. Making sure to be positive, thoughtful and helpful. This links to the photo of how you comment on blogs. - That Kerry shared.

Hapara Hot Tip #6

I am going to have a look at the workspaces on Hapara and see how I can use it within my class.

Chalk ‘n’ Talk - Screen castify

I love using Screen castify when we were in lockdown (both lockdowns) doing rewindable learning to help troubleshoot problems my students were having as well as walking through instructions with what I want my students to do.

Exploring on the Ipads was great! I will definitely use this with one of my students. The app Explain everything was easy to use and I think my students would really enjoy using this tool.

Getting Creative:

I had fun creating my smart footprint and how I can use the app to explain everything for how I can use it for one of my students in my class.

I am planning on showing this to his teacher aide and how it could support her.

Below is an image of what I created in this session.

One Teacher shared that in her school one teacher gets the kids to take pictures of their writing then reading it allowed on this app. I think I will be using this with my students.

Reflecting on the Kaupapa of the Manaiakalani Programme in light of COVID 19 , whether you did Lockdown: Season 1 or Seasons 2/3/4, and YOUR readiness for ubiquitous learning...

What are you proud of?

  • I am proud of how I was able to set learning for my students with the use of the google apps that I have learnt so far! I was able to set my site up to be easy for my students and how they see everything.

What do you regret?

  • Not having a stronger internet connection and having to use my hotspotting.

What have you taken forward into the ‘new’ era of schooling?

  • Use of my class site more in the classroom, so my students are able to use it if we ever go into lockdown again.

All in all it was a great day and I now have some ideas on how I can sort one or even more of my students in my class.

DFI // Day 6 // Enabling Access

  DFI // Day 6 // Enabling Access

Using Jamboard within my google meets to build connections with my tamariki. This has been really engaging and has been helpful with my students. Having to create some rewindable learning videos for my students to show them how to do something has helped some of my tamariki.

Managing working from home, home schooling my 6year old and house work has gotten better this week as I get into a rythym of things.

Learn:

Connected:

Chalk ‘n’ Talk

Having rewindable learning on my site, having personalised learning and having a visual aspect to your site.

My next intention for my class site is to add my planning so my tamariki and whanau can see what is going to happen that week and when.

If you have a class site and everything is on there you can use it in your teaching registration. All you need to do is give them the url for your site.

It is best to plan your site beforehand to help when you are creating your site. Keep the font consistent throughout the site.

As the picture states.

I need to learn to hide pages so then you will always have it there when you need it.

When making your class site you need to have in the back of your mind that your students need to be able to navigate the site easily.
